Our approach to these issues is to combine clinical testing with newer more sophisticated measurements of your tear film,  the lipid layer of the tear film and the front surface of the eye

This tells us if the front of the eye is getting damaged or  changing for the worse because of inflammation or irritation.   We can then determine , which layer of the lid or the tears needs to be addressed .

Lipid layer interferometry is the technical term for the testing and this is one of the main ways we have to determine our treatment approach.   We use a combination of tests for the following disorders :

  1. Cornea problem   or Dry Eye
  2. Rosacea or Lid Margin inflammation
  3. Preop or Post op Assessment  - Lid Surgery
  4. Chalazion surgery or Conjunctival Surgery, Scarring or Inflammation
The purpose of the tests is to either help with the assessment prior to surgery, or to  check on the condition of the eye before or after treatment . . The cost of the test is not covered by OHIP and  will cost from $65- $80. The test is painless and relatively brief. No drops are used for the tests .
